Hello from New Zealand. We spent two weeks exploring the North Island and we just began a two week stretch to "max out" the South Island.
We were supposed to leave New Zealand on Sept. 7th, but we've been having such a great time we decided to extend our stay to the 13th.
On the North Island we enjoyed cosmopolitan Auckland, took a ferry to Waiheke Island, met the "travel guru" of New Zealand, took a super fast speed boat through the Hole in the Rock in the Bay of Islands and drove to the northern most tip of New Zealand -- Cape Reinga.
We also saw the amazing giant trees in the Kauri Forest, were awed by the boiling, gurgling, hissing, blasting thermal region of New Zealand, caught rainbow trout in Lake Taupo, gazed at huge Mt. Ruapehu and so much more.
Our South Island experience has only just begun but we have already gone sperm whale watching from a small plane (the attached picture is the plane we flew in) and got up close to hundreds of seals in a seal colony. Next we plan on "tramping" the Abel Tasman Coastal Trail -- maybe the best hike in all of New Zealand.

We hope all is well with everyone. Stay in touch.
