Day 260 of Lisa and Joel's Excellent Adventure finds us in Mumbai, India.
Since our last email update, we crossed over the Nepali/Indian border at Sonauli. We continued overland to Varanasi, one of the oldest and holiest places on the planet.
After Varanasi, we took an overnight train to Fatephur Sikri, where we hooked up with a really nice couple from New Zealand -- Simon and Emily, who we would end up traveling with for a while. We used Fatephur Sikri as a launching point to see the world famous Taj Mahal.
Our next stop was Jaipur, known as the Pink City. Besides seeing the impressive landmarks of Jaipur, we also joined in the fun of a religious holiday called Holy. Everyone runs around throwing colored dye on each other. (See attached picture.)
After Jaipur, it was off to Jaisalmer, where we went on a camel safari in the Thar Desert.
It took 32 hours of straight travel to get from Jaisalmer to Mumbai.
Tonight we jump on a plane and keep heading west. As always, you can check out all the details of our adventure at the web site.
Hope all is well with everyone and take care.
