Breakdown!!!  We had car trouble on the way to Townsville.  The battery died in the Ford, Fairmont, Futura and we had to replace it.  We finally arrived in Townsville the night of Saturday, October 14th.

We checked into
The Civic House Backpackers Hostel.  Sunday, October 15th we checked out the beach area in Townsville.  Townsville is a really nice city.  They have beautiful beaches (some covered with nets to keep out the nasty boxer jellyfish(stingers), the great white sharks (pointers) and the saltwater crocodiles(crocs).   There were kids flying kites, music, pretty flags of all different colors blowing in the cool ocean breeze on a beautiful sunny day.  We stayed at the Civic House again Sunday night.

Monday, October 15th, we took a ferry over to Magnetic Island.
Magnetic Island may be ranked in our Top Ten Best Places In The World To Hang Out And Chill.  It was totally awesome!  We laid out on beautiful Horseshoe Bay Beach.  It was one of those days when the biggest stress of the day is what shells are you going to put on your sandcastle.  We stayed over night on Magnetic Island Monday night at the Travelers Backpackers Hostel in Picnic Bay.

Tuesday, October 16th we continued our adventure on Magnetic Island by walking around
The Forts.  The Forts is a old World War II defense system that was built way up on the northeastern high point of the island.  It was built to ward off bombing raids by the Japanese forces.  It was really cool and there were a lot of nice view points of Radical Bay from the top. We were lucky enough to see a mother and her baby koala just hanging around in a tree.  They are so cute!  We hiked all the way from The Forts entrance to Horseshoe Bay, past Florence Bay and a whole lot of other bays.  It was a tough (it felt like 100 degrees) hike, but it was a good hike.  Tuesday night we went back to the Civic House in Townsville.

We left Townsville on Wednesday, October 17th.
